Q&A with Kendy Ty, Director of “Behind”
ALTER: Name a Horror character you relate to on a spiritual level? Who is your Horror spirit animal?
Kendy Ty: The octopus or the squid, because these are very Lovecraftian!
A: When you’re building the world of your film, where do you look for inspiration?
KT: I love the HP Lovecraft universe so I just decided to explore that alongside my moody style by building something very contemplative.
A: What would you do if you woke up inside of your film?
KT: Nothing, I would just watch the end of the world.
A: Lightning round: Freddy or Jason? Stephen King or H.P. Lovecraft? Practical or CGI? Post Apocalypse or Pre Apocalypse?
KT: Freddy because he is more funny than Jason who is a mute guy.
Lovecraft of course.
Practical because CGI costs too much money!
Post Apocalypse is more interesting.
A: How do you go about creating the props and sets for your film? How do you create objects that are relatable but unfamiliar?
KT: I just filmed a real octopus in an aquatic museum in Paris to make the monster. It was fun!
A: And finally, Ghostface would like to know ‘What’s your favourite scary movie?’
KT: Brain Dead because there is a kung fu priest in that movie and it’s hilarious!
