Q&A with Jack Pirie, Director of “Bite”
Name a Horror character you relate to on a spiritual level? Who is your Horror spirit animal?
You’ve gotta go through some bad ideas to get to the good ones. Tell us one of your bad ideas. How do you get past the bad ones to find your spark?
Write stuff down. I keep a huge spreadsheet of random (mostly incomprehensible) ideas: stuff I’ve read, fragments from dreams etc. Here’s one I just found from a few years back: “A dog that has been retrofitted with two separate stomachs” . Don’t ask me what that was about.
Do you consider yourself part of a horror community?
Sure. Maybe. I don’t know.
When you’re building the world of your film, where do you look for inspiration?
It’s probably the other way around for me. Wait for an idea, then build the world while you’re still buzzing with that unfiltered excitement of unlimited possibility.
What would you do if you woke up inside of your film?
Try and go back to sleep.
Who would be on your ultimate horror villain squad?
The Castevets, Pale Man from Pan’s Labyrinth, The Cowboy from Mulholland Drive, The Thing thing.
Lightning round: Freddy or Jason? Stephen King or H.P. Lovecraft? Practical or CGI? Post Apocalypse or Pre Apocalypse?
Freddy. Lovecraft. Practical. Pre apocalypse (it’s all about anticipation…)
And finally, Ghostface would like to know ‘What’s your favourite scary movie?’
Here’s eight: Psycho, Rosemary’s baby, The Others, The Skin I live in, Pan’s Labyrinth, The Talented Mr Ripley, Alien, The Innocents…
