Q&A with Kevin Vu, Director of “Splendona”
Name a Horror character you relate to on a spiritual level? Who is your Horror spirit animal?
The eponymous “Carrie”. My films are usually focused on misfits and how they navigate a world that doesn’t understand them. Carrie might be the ultimate misfit.
You’ve gotta go through some bad ideas to get to the good ones. Tell us one of your bad ideas. How do you get past the bad ones to find your spark?
I’m probably the worst person to answer this but to get past the bad ideas, you just have to be patient and wait until, one day, you meet and fall in love with the right one. Don’t find it, just let the stars align.
Do you consider yourself part of a horror community?
Not sure. Are any of them accepting applications?
When you’re building the world of your film, where do you look for inspiration?
When building a world, I try to avoid watching other films out of fear that I’m subconsciously emulating someone else’s voice and style. I like to find inspiration from other art forms including books, photography, video art, performance art.
What would you do if you woke up inside of your film?
I would slap myself to ensure I’m not dreaming.
Who would be on your ultimate horror villain squad?
“Squad”? I scare solo.
Lightning round: Freddy or Jason? Stephen King or H.P. Lovecraft? Practical or CGI? Post Apocalypse or Pre Apocalypse?
Freddy. Stephen. Practical. Pre Apocalypse
And finally, Ghostface would like to know ‘What’s your favourite scary movie?’
Andrzej Zulawski’s “Possession”
