Q&A with Patrick Mason, Director of “Ayuda”
Name a Horror character you relate to on a spiritual level? Who is your Horror spirit animal?
M. Night Shyamalan in everyone of his movies. He’s always playing such a normal guy but you know deep down he’s completely in control – he wrote and directed the movie!
You’ve gotta go through some bad ideas to get to the good ones. Tell us one of your bad ideas. How do you get past the bad ones to find your spark?
The bad ideas are really the ones that have already been done. I really gravitate toward stories that haven’t been told.
Do you consider yourself part of a horror community?
Not really. This is my first horror short and that’s certainly opened up that community. I love horror though.
When you’re building the world of your film, where do you look for inspiration?
I’m fairly logical so I really just think of stories in a logical, sequential way.
What would you do if you woke up inside of your film?
I would almost certainly die.
Who would be on your ultimate horror villain squad?
I’m not a horror “villain” fan really. Things aren’t that black and white, that being said definitely Boris Karloff. Not playing any of his movie roles but the actual Boris Karloff. Dude was awesome.
Lightning round: Freddy or Jason? Stephen King or H.P. Lovecraft? Practical or CGI? Post Apocalypse or Pre Apocalypse?
Michael Myers. King. Practical. Pre for sure – or rather real life.
And finally, Ghostface would like to know ‘What’s your favourite scary movie?’
