Q&A with Ha Myungmi, Director of “The Pulley by Steven Kwang”
Name a Horror character you relate to on a spiritual level? Who is your Horror spirit animal?
Jack Torrance from “The Shining”. He is the scariest symbol of patriarchy.
You’ve gotta go through some bad ideas to get to the good ones. Tell us one of your bad ideas. How do you get past the bad ones to find your spark?
To get to the good ones… I do simulate the idea a lot. For example, making mock ups or using small cams to test of camera moving and how the actor moves… and making an animation with a storyboard.
Do you consider yourself part of a horror community?
I don’t but I really like the ghost in the horror film and like to find out what their story is.
When you’re building the world of your film, where do you look for inspiration?
I always observe my unconscious.
What would you do if you woke up inside of your film?
Well… That’s horrible to think, but I will fight for the happy ending.
Who would be on your ultimate horror villain squad?
Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. He is the most horrible narcissist and sociopath in our society, and he is so real… That scares me.
Lightning round: Freddy or Jason? Stephen King or H.P. Lovecraft? Practical or CGI? Post Apocalypse or Pre Apocalypse?
Jason. Stephen King. Practical. Post Apocalypse
And finally, Ghostface would like to know ‘What’s your favourite scary movie?’
The Shining. It’s the scariest movie I ever saw.
