Q&A with Budfoot Filmmakers
Name a Horror character you relate to on a spiritual/personal level?
Marty Mikalski, the level-headed stoner from Cabin in the Woods. We feel like we get underestimated even though we’re totally two steps ahead.
You’ve gotta go through some bad ideas to get to the good ones. Tell us one of your bad ideas. How do you get past the bad ones to find your spark?
Wizard Cop was a great idea. We reject the question.
Do you consider yourself part of a horror community?
Sure! But you’ll have to ask them.
When you’re building the world of your film, where do you look for inspiration?
Hot meals and fuzzed out riffs.
What would you do if you woke up inside of your film?
Smoke Budfoot, but we wouldn’t be so difficult about it.
Who would be on your ultimate horror villain squad?
Dr. Pretorious, Skeletor, Death from Bogus Journey and High Tension from High Tension
Lightning round: Freddy or Jason? Stephen King or H.P. Lovecraft? Practical or CGI? Post Apocalypse or Pre Apocalypse?
Freddy. More imaginative.
Stephen King. Less racist.
Both. A beautiful marriage.
Pre. I like making and consuming movies.
How do you go about creating the props and sets for your film? How do you create objects that are relatable but unfamiliar?
A little know-how and a little can-do. But Shane Morton and JD Koth have boatloads of both. So much of this is about assembling the right robots so that Voltron can be made whole.
What scares you, and does it inspire your storytelling?
Losing our minds. Fucking big time.
And finally, Ghostface would like to know ‘What’s your favourite scary movie?’
