Q&A with Hyunsoo Lee, Director of “A Function”
Name a Horror character you relate to on a spiritual/personal level?
Douksini (a Korean word for Potergeist)
You’ve gotta go through some bad ideas to get to the good ones. Tell us one of your bad ideas. How do you get past the bad ones to find your spark?
I always think about silly ideas. I once came up with an image of a woman who was cut in half but I thought that was a terrible idea. Then I saw a news that many women are killed by their husbands. So I thought about a vengeance of a cut-in-half-woman to her husband. So I made a short film about that idea.
Do you consider yourself part of a horror community?
When you’re building the world of your film, where do you look for inspiration?
What would you do if you woke up inside of your film?
Find a mask and put it on.
Who would be on your ultimate horror villain squad?
Penny Wise and all the creepy ladies from J-horror
Lightning round: Freddy or Jason? Stephen King or H.P. Lovecraft? Practical or CGI? Post Apocalypse or Pre Apocalypse?
Freddy, Stephen King, Practical, Post Apocalypse
What scares you, and does it inspire your storytelling?
Spiders. Whenever I don’t finish my horror script in time, I google spider pictures and torture myself.
And finally, Ghostface would like to know ‘What’s your favourite scary movie?’
‘Insidious Part 2’ by James Wan
