Q&A with Patrick Kennelly , Director of “Hammurabi”
Name a Horror character you relate to on a spiritual/personal level?
Any character portrayed by Lon Chaney (senior).
You’ve gotta go through some bad ideas to get to the good ones. Tell us one of your bad ideas. How do you get past the bad ones to find your spark?
I would say 90% are bad ideas and the good ones somehow sneak in every once and awhile.
Do you consider yourself part of a horror community?
When you’re building the world of your film, where do you look for inspiration?
As a director (and also when I write), I work from a collage aesthetic – mixing disparate information and time periods.
What would you do if you woke up inside of your film?
Get the hell out.
Who would be on your ultimate horror villain squad?
Though not really villains per see, I would enlist the “freaks” in Tod Browning’s Freaks
Lightning round: Practical or CGI? Post Apocalypse or Pre Apocalypse?
Practical effects in the Post-Apocalypse.
What scares you, and does it inspire your storytelling?
The day-to-day. The terror of real life is my primary storytelling agenda.
And finally, Ghostface would like to know ‘What’s your favourite scary movie?’
Ken Russell’s The Devils
