Q & A

Name a Horror character you relate to on a spiritual/personal level?

Danny Torance.

You’ve gotta go through some bad ideas to get to the good ones. Tell us one of your bad ideas. How do you get past the bad ones to find your spark?

Bad ideas are your friend. I will write a list of maybe 10 bad ideas and find that by the time I get to numbers 7 or 8, I’m actually eliminating ideas because they aren’t bad enough. After doing that it becomes harder to come up with a bad idea than a good one.

Do you consider yourself part of a horror community?

I think not.

When you’re building the world of your film, where do you look for inspiration?

I look at things which embarrass me or that I’m a little ashamed of. If I share an idea with someone and they cringe or squirm, I usually think yeah, that might be a good one.

What would you do if you woke up inside of your film?

Try to fix whatever wasn’t possible in the edit.

Who would be on your ultimate horror villain squad?

Patrick Bateman and Tom Ripley.

Lightning round: Freddy or Jason? Stephen King or H.P. Lovecraft? Practical or CGI? Post Apocalypse or Pre Apocalypse?

I’d like to see a film adaptation of a Stephen King novel about young Jason being tormented by Freddy.

What scares you, and does it inspire your storytelling?

Mothers.

And finally, Ghostface would like to know ‘What’s your favourite scary movie?’

An American Werewolf in London.
