David Mikalson is a writer and director located in Los Angeles, CA. His last short film STAY premiered at Fantastic Fest in 2017 and went on to play over forty festivals around the world. He was awarded “Best Director” for STAY at Cinepocalypse in 2018. His follow up short film STUCK recently premiered at Fantastic Fest in September of 2020. He is currently working on several feature screenplays and television projects.

You’ve gotta go through some bad ideas to get to the good ones. Tell us one of your bad ideas. How do you get past the bad ones to find your spark?
I better not, even the terrible ones I might want to use later.
When you’re building the world of your film, where do you look for inspiration?
How do you go about creating the props and sets for your film? How do you create objects that are relatable but unfamiliar?
Buy them off certain websites and then return them regardless of condition. Or have professionals make them or rent them.
What scares you, and does it inspire your storytelling?
Alzheimers. It hasn’t come up yet.
